The MCCQE Part 1 is a one day test. It is separated into two sections: morning and afternoon. The morning section will have 210 multiple choice questions which can take up to 3,5 hours. The afternoon section consists of 38 clinical decision making (CDM) cases with short menu (multiple choice with multiple right answers) and short answer (fill-in-the blank or short answer write-in) questions. The afternoon section will have 65-75 questions related to these 38 CDM cases. You will have 3.5 hours to complete these questions.
Therefore, the MCCQE Part 1 Clinical decision making (CDM) cases are 1/2 of the test and worth 50% of your grade. This is a huge portion of your grade that this should be taken seriously. There are some differences in working with the software that you should be used to prior to test day. Most students are not familiar with having to fill in the answer on a computer. For years, most students are familiar with the multiple choice questions as this is the most common way of testing students. This can take some getting used to, so we recommend that you practice sufficiently that you will be comfortable on the real test.
We have 140 clinical decision making cases that will test your knowledge of how to diagnose, treat, and manage patients in a variety of medical conditions and settings. This will help the student both prepare for the MCCQE Part 1 as well as to practice medicine independently in Canada.
We ask that you try out our MCCQE Part 1 study simulator by going to the "Try" tab or you can visit it by clicking here. Our demo mode will allow you to do 2 cases for free, so you can try it out before you decide to purchase.
